Impacting Communities through Training and Outreach – Kiminini, Trans Nzoia

As part of our ongoing efforts to foster social, community, and economic development, the team from Universal Humanitarian Development Program (UHDP) recently collaborated and worked with Wefwe Welfare & Wellness on a familiarity mission. The team seeks to develop increased awareness for palliative care while also generating social and community evidence towards understanding and improving care practices.

The target group was identified from world-of-mouth and an ethnographic visit was deemed appropriate since there was little prior communication and publication. Our organization has in the past identified local data as being siloed and not reaching relevant publications for dissemination. We expect the recent excursion to improve the overall team’s understanding of the plight of the members in need of palliative care. Furthermore, increased involvement further informs research questions and project concerns that can influence future attempts at generating meaningful community ventures.

Teaching and learning across the required formal and informal pedagogies is still important even as existing established setups continue to do great work to assist the need in society. Nonetheless, the visit revealed needs for continued investigations not only to build case studies and awareness, but to also ensure that interventions are data driven.

This visit was part of our broader outreach efforts that include working with various groups to promote inclusive community welfare. Whether through elderly care, youth development, or women’s empowerment, remains committed to building strong, resilient communities through capacity building and research-led initiatives.
